Treatment of arsenic by filter coagulation: A South American advanced technology
Different indoor and outdoor tests are carried out with the aim of eliminating arsenic from ground water, so as to establish the most convenient process. This process should include characteristics such as operative simplicity, reliability and repetition of outcomes. Various studies showed that common underground water treatments, namely the processes of adsorption over ferric hydroxide or aluminum oxide or better, precipitation or coagulation with Fe(II) or Fe(III), are the most appropriate for lowering arsenic. But many agree that the more satisfactory results are those obtained with ferric salts. Arsenate is more efficiently reduced with arsenite, and oxidation of the arsenite into arsenate is needed in order to complete lowering of arsenic.
