Peugeot takes integrated approach
The recent launch of the widely acclaimed Peugeot 206 has brought with it the opportunity for the company's Ryton, Coventry plant to adopt a number of important new factory automation procedures. It was built using a 'plateau', which involves bringing the design, manufacturing, automation and production teams together at the start of a project to ensure that manufacturing is optimised. It is the first Peugeot to be designed entirely with the aid of computer simulations. Zero tolerance QC is used, together with robotic assembly and checking. The SimaticS5 PLC used contain a diagnostics package.
