Textile reinforcement for lightweight concrete
(Vorlagentext defekt). The use of textile reinforcement is not very common in civil engineering. One reason is, that there are only few experiences with textiles in combination with concrete. In addition is the production of these textiles (in DM/kN tensile strength) recently much more expensive than the production of steel reinforcement. At some applications, like pumice concrete wall-elements or thin wall components, it might be advantageous to set textile reinforcement. Based on tests with textile reinforced normal concrete beams, small beams of pumice concrete were made as preliminary tests and analysed on bending strength. In the main tests wall-elements with a size of 200 cm length and 50 cm width were produced and also tested. Textile- and steel reinforcement are compared in the force-deformation diagram. The diagram shows for steel, glass and carbon the load and the deformation identical until the initial crack. After the initial crack the carbon- and steel-reinforced elements have a similar slope. But the bond of steel- to pumice concrete fails much earlier than the carbon-concrete bond. Also the fibreglass reinforced elements show a clear increase in bearing capacity in comparison to the steel reinforcement, but with failure by tensile rapture of the glass reinforcement. After the bending test, two cores were drilled. The compressive strength of the pumice concrete was tested at 8 days age. The pumice concrete reached a compression strength of 7,43 N/sqmm and 7,28 N/sqmm.
