Durability of carbon composites made with inorganic matrix
This paper deals with the use of high strength composites made using inorganic matrix for the rehabilitation of concrete elements used in infrastructure. The repaired components were tested under wet-dry conditions that are common in marine environments. Additionally, scaling tests were conducted to simulate conditions that are common in bridge decks that are exposed to deicing salts. A high strength concrete mix was used for the parent concrete samples. An inorganic matrix was used in conjunction with discrete carbon fibers, carbon tows, and layered carbon fabric to strengthen the concrete samples. The effectiveness of the strengthening system was evaluated using the flexural properties of the specimens.
