In the construction of lightweight roof structures, the connections transfer loads and fasten the elements of the roof together, providing means for tensioning. The connections need to have strength and stability for the loads and flexibility for displacements and rotation to relax overstress. Complementary devices are recommended to increase the safety at critical points where failure may cause a general collapse, great damage or personal injuries. The designer should have in mind the geometry of the building, the erection and dismantling processes, influences from climate and environment, as well as the visual expression of the building. In the article, the author gives some useful advices with respect to all supporting members of the construction, elucidates some principles of detailing and presents positive and negative examples for the design of connections in existing textile roofing projects.
