Reaction-sintering of a CaAl2O4 refractory cement
A refractory cement CaAl2O4 base, was produced through the reaction-sintering of CaO-Al2O3 mixtures. For the formation of the product, sintering of mixtures at different temperatures (1450 -1550 deg C) during 1 h was carried out. The X-ray diffraction analysis shows that CaAl2O4 is obtained at 1450 deg C. Whereas, density increases with the sintering temperature, at the same time that micro hardness also increases as a consequence of have a body well densified. The cement was cold down from different temperatures (300 - 1000 deg C) in water at 25 deg C, and it can be ovserved that from 700 deg C the cement resist well the cooling, however if it is cooling from higher temperatures than 700 deg C there are microcracking in the cement.
