Utilization of cement kiln dust in the manufacture of wall tiles
Replacement of feldspar, either totally or partially by cement kiln dust (CKD) is discussed in this work with the double target of cast reduction and environment protection. Raw materials used for body preparation were assessed by chemical analysis, sieve analysis, XRD. DTA and TGA. Samples were dry pressed then fired at 1125 deg C for 5, 10, 15 min soaking time respectively. Vitrification parameters of the fired samples were measured. The XRD and SEM were used to analyze the phases and texture. Dielectric properties were measured. As a conclusion, the replacement of half the feldspar in the body mixture by CKD will keep the water absorption within both ISO and Egyptian standards limits of wall tiles. CKD in the mixture makes it less dense, more porous and lowers the compressive strength. The dielectric properties gets better, while the electric resistivities of all the system showed good electrical insulators behavior.
