Facades made out of textile reinforced concrete
The new composite material textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) offers a number of advantages, in particular for the manufacture of facades. The corrosion-resistant textile reinforcement and the low concrete cover required for it, makes the construction of thin-walled structural components possible. Filigree cladding panels of textile reinforced concrete open up new ways for an entirely new application of the construction material concrete and give architects and engineers more freedom in the design. In a research project sponsored by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in the German state of North-Rhine/Westphalia (NRW), cladding panels of textile reinforced concrete are currently developed in a pilot project for the application in a concrete construction project. In this paper some general information about die load bearing behaviour of textile reinforced concrete, important test results and a first application of TRC is described.
