Ropes and fittings are essential elements of architectural membrane structures. Steel wire ropes are subject to extensions of different nature: permanent construction extension, elastic extension, thermal expansion or contraction, elongation by rotation, elongation due to inter-wire wear, permanent extension caused by tensile loads exceeding the yield point of the material. Pre-stressing results in the elimination of the initial extension. Cable terminations are socketings, swaged ends, jaw ends, and closed ends. Ratched buckles and typical wire rope fittings are presented in figures.
