Durable building panels
Short notice given only substantially as follows: A durable building panel is the subject of an International Patent (WO 01/36191). The construction has three elements: a substrate; a polymer film or coating, and resin saturated paper. The resin-impregnated paper may be used on either or both faces of the panel. The fibre cement in this type of product comprises: about 20 - 80 % Portland cement; 20 - 70 % ground silica; about 0 - 12 % cellulose fibre; and 0 - 6 % selected additives such as mineral oxides, mineral hydroxides and water. A sheet of this type was made using a direct lamination process. This was roller-coated with a water-based polyurethane adhesive on both sides. To this a layer of melamine-formaldehyde resin impregnated paper and four layers of phenol-formaldehyde impregnated papers were place on top of the coated fibre cement. This structre was then cured under pressure.
