Since 1972, over 45 million metric tonnes of 55 % Al-Zn coated sheet steel have been produced worldwide. Numerous field inspections have been conducted around the world (North America, Europe, Asia) to evaluate the 'reallife' performance of this unique, corrosion-resistant sheet steel product. The latest field inspections were conducted in June 2002 to evaluate the long-term performance of 55 % Al-Zn coated sheet steel roofing in Sweden and the United Kingdom. The field inspections were sponsored by the European members of the Zinc Aluminum Coaters Association, commonly known as EuroZAC. Twelve, unpainted, 55 % Al-Zn commercial/industrial roofs, ranging in age from 13 to 22 years, were inspected in June, 2002. Additional field inspections of 55 % Al-Zn roofs in Europe are planned for the summer of 2003. This interim report will summarize the results from the June 2002 field inspections. Seven of the twelve roofs had previously been inspected between 1989 and 1990. Based on the field inspection results, all twelve roofs were in to excellent condition. The roofs are projected to perform well for at least another 20 years without the need for major maintenance.
