Effect of high-range water reducer-viscosity enhancing admixture combination on rheological properties of concrete equivalent mortar
For this study, a parallel plate rheometer was used to characterize the rheological properties of CEM made with 300 micrometer nominal-size sand particles. The CEM was proportioned with different VEA-HRWRA combinations. The case of polycarboxylate-based HRWRA was studied to determine the coefficient B corresponding to the thixotropic breakdown. For each mixture, the equilibrium shear rate of 70 s-1 was determined. It was demonstrated that for the same consistency, the naphthalene-based HRWRA can develop a lower equilibrium viscosity than the polycarboxylate-based HRWRA. This testing protocol can then be used to select efficient combinations of HRWRA-VEA in cement-based materials.
