An overview about active oscillation damping of mobile machine structure
This review paper summarizes the developments of active oscillation damping concepts in the area of mobile machines with the machine work hydraulics used. Several concepts have been presented in the past basing on different sensor, control and hydraulic strategy. In fact, considering mobile machine in series production active oscillation damping is used more or less only in agricultural tractor machines. Due to additional costs for components and high control and implementation effort only minor construction machines use active damping today. One reason is surely the inefficient damping quality with today's valve controlled actuator and another reason is the additional high energy consumption. This opens the way for other actuator solutions like the displacement controlled actuator technology. This development, meaning the step from valve control to direct pump control was done in electric systems many years ago (resistance control to direct motor control) and could offer new application fields for fluid power or even strengthen the position of hydraulics against electrics.
