Application of silicon gel extinguishing agent in fire protection and fire fighting of spontaneous combustion
The cause and characteristic of spontaneous combustion, as well as the mechanism to extinguish it, have been analyzed. The combustion retardation, penetration, thermal stability and fire fighting performance of the silicon gel-extinguishing agent have been studied. According to the experimental results, it is found out that the silicon gel-extinguishing agent has good fire retarding and extinguishing ability. Because it can increase the thermal stability of water, prolong the time water remains in the coal stack and help water to block out oxygen and cool down the coal, it improves the speed, efficiency and the safety of the fire fighting of spontaneous combustion. Though above research, it can be concluded that silicon gel extinguishing gel has following properties: (1) Excellent thermal stability. That can prolong the effecting time of water in the high temperature area, lessen evaporation of water which can lowers hazard of steam explosion and promote safety during fire fighting process under mine; (2) Good water keeping ability. That can prolong cooling effect of water that can increase heat loss and helps to lower the surface and inner temperature of coal. Silicon gel staying in coal can block out oxygen and makes it difficult to spontaneously combust or to reburn; (3) Good flame retarding ability. That can restrain temperature rise, slow down the spread of fire and shorten the time taken to put out the fire; (4) Good fire prevention and extinguishing performance. That can increase the activation energy of the system under treatment and strengthen the fire prevention and extinguishing function of the fire-extinguishing agent; (5) Low cost. Water, Base-material and congelation promoter are mixed together according to the weight proportion of 100: 10: 3. The price of lm3 silicon gel is 70 RMB that is much lower than those of other aqueous fire-extinguishing agents.
