Recent fiberglass-reinforced plastic applications: Radome and hybrid bridge system
The construction and installation of a fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) radome and composite FRP/concrete bridge beams was discussed. The radome assembly is done in stages, beginning with the preassembled radome top cap and adjoining A-Row panels. This project addressed cost-effective methods of implementing FRP in bridge structural elements. Various issues related to the development of a system combining FRP beams and conventionally reinforced concrete deck that could effectively sustain traffic loading by means of composite action were also addressed.
