Filtration aspects of laying ocean pineline
The innovative and latest filtration techniques have provided a new dimension to laying ocean pipelines and have created a need for close economic analysis of wet versus dry laying of pipelines. Inline, front-end filtration has proven economically viable and synergistic from both investment and operating viewpoints. This technology allows the massive high-flow movement of seawater through the system at a very low pressure drop. The high-flow filtration unit has a unique configuration of segregated flow channels, which reduces the initial cost of the new equipment by matching the filter to pipeline diameter. The economic considerations/comparisons of front-end filtration with dry laying include weight and space requirements, water treatment costs, and number of trips required between port and lay site. However, wet-lay, front-end filtration offers the flexibility of less interference with other platform activity and creates extensive savings, as there are no per-day expenses related to water treatment barges.
