Measurement of chloride content in concrete using near-infrared spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence analysis
Many non-destructive inspection methods have recently been developed for concrete structures. However, these methods can only obtain the concrete's physical properties, such as crack depth, delamination, position of reinforcement, etc., near the concrete surface. Core boring or sampling can be performed for componential analysis in order to cover the lack of chemical information. Applicability of near infrared spectroscopy and portable X-ray fluorescence analyzer to measurement of chloride content was confirmed from the experimental results. It has been shown that distribution of chloride penetration can be detected from the difference spectrum images and the content can be measured using portable X-ray fluorescence analyzer. These methods can be chosen as the situation demands, and shorten measurement time and improve working efficiency. These will prove to be powerful tools for inspectors or administrators of infrastructures.
