Expansion stress analysis of ferroconcrete corrosion by digital reflection photoelasticity
This paper provides a practicable method to measure the expansion stress due to the corroded steel bar in concrete. There are several conclusions described as following: 1. Using the reflection photoelastic method, with the digital image-processing techniques, this method can rapidly and reasonably measure the distribution of the expansion stresses of ferroconcrete damaged due to corrosion in different corrosion (cracking) stages. 2. Combined with the reflection photoelasticity technique and digital image processing using to measure the expansion stress of the concrete surrounding the steel bar in various corrosion stages after the steel bar was corroded, tallies with an actually situation rather than with using the physical model. Hence, not only can it accurately quantify, calculate and assess the expansion stress after the steel bar was corroded and damaged, it can also achieve the goal of long-term monitoring. 3. Applying this study to an engineering site can not only provide long-term monitoring of the status of a structure sustaining corrosion and measure the distribution of stresses on the structure surface, but it can also serve as an important reference basis for assessing residual bonding strength for corrosion structures.
