Diagnosing and forecasting the residual service life of welded metal structures of bridge cranes using metal foils
A basically new experimental and computational method for the assessment of the residual service life of metal structures using integral-type foil sensors of deformation is proposed to ensure safe operation of bridge cranes whose standard service life has expired. This method takes into account the actual accumulation of fatigue damage even prior to the appearance of cracks and enables one to identify hazardous places and determine cyclic loading and, as a whole, the individual residual service life of welded metal structures. Tests of the method on bridge cranes showed that the efficiency of the method is high. A forecast of the individual residual service life under unchanged operating conditions is obtained based on the accumulated fatigue damage and the equivalent stresses and loading cycles. The described method for testing welded metal structures is of a nondestructive type.
