Strength characteristics of high strength concrete using silica fume system
This paper deals with experimental study on strength characteristics of concrete using CSF (condensed silica fume) of grade 920D. The main objective of the study was to arrive at optimum dose of condensed silica fume for different grade of high strength concrete The properties which were studied include cube compressive strength, split tensile strength flexural strength and modulus of elasticity of concrete containing silica fume with different doses. A detailed study was also conducted to measure other properties such as relative strength gain, compacting factor of fresh mixes and strength to weight ratio of concrete with silica fume system. From the experimental results it was concluded that silica fume is highly effective pozzolanic material and has considerable potential for use in high strength concrete. It is recommended that the dose of silica fume should be judiciously and scientifically decided so that optimum strength properties as well as economy can be achieved simultaneously.
