High strength concrete in constructive elements of urban structures
Shear strength of high strength concrete constructive elements of subway and other similar urban structures are analysed in this paper. Due to relatively large dimensions of the cross sections of these elements they are usually being designed with minimum of shear reinforcement. High strength concrete members displayed a more significant size effect in shear than normal strength concrete members. Designed shear strength of these elements would be overestimated if the applied design procedure does not recognize that, as the size of such members increases, the shear stress required to cause failure, decreases. Shear strength designed according to the relation of EC2 and effect of arch action are considered. Analysis are based on the results of author's own experimental researches and results avaliable in literature.
