Effect of limestone as aggregate on reducing drying shrinkage of concrete
This paper deals with the effect of limestone as aggregate on reducing the drying shrinkage of concrete. The influence of the source of limestone, the type of cement and the expansive admixture content on the concrete drying shrinkage was investigated. As a result, the following was found: The drying shrinkage of concrete with limestone as both fine and coarse aggregates was much less than that of concrete with hill sand and hard sandstone. Moderate heat Portland cement and an expansive admixture were also effective in reducing the drying shrinkage of concrete. The pore volume in the range of 0.05 to 2 micro-meters in diameter decreased in concrete with limestone aggregates. The drying shrinkage of limestone coarse aggregates itself was remarkably small. The specific surface area of aggregate correlated with the drying shrinkage strain of concrete.
