This article continues the series of puplications on the results of the recent resource effiency benchmarling study of Russian ferrous foundry industry. The author highlights how foundries can improve their operational performance by looking specially at four of seven key performance indicators (KPis) - energy, fresh sand and water consumption. Next articles in this series will present brief guide on self diagnostics for foundries to benchmark themselves against key performance indicators. The basis of the informations are statistical data from the russian foundry industry and from GEMCO Engineers BV/Knight Wendling GmbH. The data are defined in best praxis and in avarage data. It are given data for energy consumption, new sand consumption and frish water consumtion für grey cast iron, nodular graphite cast iron and cast steel.
