Structural bonding of timber
Adhesive bonding technology has played an essential role in the development and growth of structural timber applications in the modern era. This includes the repair and rehabilitation of historic structures as well as the development of a variety of structural lumber composites used in newly built modular constructions. In both cases proving to be both structurally efficient and economically competitive when compared with more traditional techniques. This paper presents the state-of-the-art in the development of such techniques, discusses the important issue related to the long-term durability of bonded connections that these techniques rely upon and explores how fundamental research into the structural bonding of timber will influence future developments.
