Flame retardant cable sheath compound
Approximately 89000 customers were subjected to interruption of telecommunication service for a lengthy period of time after the November 1984 cable tunnel fire in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward. To prevent the recurrence of such disasters, the NTT has developed a flame retardant compound for tunnel cable sheath. It consists of a base of ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer, and the additives of nonhalogenated retardants and others. It has a good flame retardancy and shows excellent characteristics in smoke generation. It is a halogen-free material. It, moreover, has good mechanical properties and acid resistance.
