Computer aided drafting has a wide range of benefits for the structural steel and plate fabrication process. Along with simplifying the preparation of erection plans and shop detail drawings, it provides a database of information which can be used repeatedly, avoiding manual calculation and copying. The database produces material order lists, material weights, bolt lists, cutting lists, templates, fitting gathers, NC equipment data files, production and inventory controls, inspection files, seqeuences lists, shipping lists, billing information, and cost accounting data. Thus, computer-aided-drafting is much more than an electronic pencil.
