Ductility demand of one-story eccentric structures subjected to seismic motions
The ductility demand of the resisting elements of an eccentric one-story model subjected to seismic excitation is presented. It is found that one of the most significant parameters of the model is the yielding displacements of its resisting elements. In previous studies, it was assumed that these displacements have the same value for all the resisting elements of the model. In the present study, these displacements are calculated by a statical analysis of the model for horizontal force Pyt applied between the mass center and the stiffness center, which is in accordance with the seismic codes. Depending on the system parameters, the ductility demand is greater than the reduction factor of the elastic forces. A minimization of the ductility demand of the resisting elements can be achieved by prescribing a specific eccentricity of the total horizontal yielding force Pyt.
