Analysis of H-beam rolling processes by rigid-plastic FEM
The Rigid-Plastic FEM for a slightly compressible material is applied to analyse the process of rolling H-beam with tensions on a universal mill. It was found that there are two types of singular point. The first one is on the interface of the web and the flange of the stock, where the velocity at the nodes is discontinuous. The second one is on the contacting surface, where the first partial derivative of the relative velocity between the roll and the stock would be discontinuous under some conditions. Some measures were taken to overcome the difficulties caused by the singular points. A.R.P.FEM program, named FARUM, (Finite element Analysis of Rolling H-beam on a Universal Mill) was developed. The numerical results by the R.P.FEM re in good agreement with the experimental ones.
