Computer image processing for displacements measurement
In centrifugal modelling, the displacements of the points in a vertical plane are usually determined from the coordinates of markers. Photographs of the model are taken when the basket passes using a fixed camera in the building. The article presents a new method using a CCD camera carried aboard the model, the images from which are digitized for automatic processing in real time. The hardware and software used are described and two examples of applications are presented: investigation of the flow of sands in hoppers and soil displacements in the vicinity of a circular cavity. This method makes it possible to extend the domains of application of centrifugal modelling.
