Passive vibration suppression through the utilization of the localization phenomenon
The localization phenomenon in almost periodic structures has had a great deal of attention, lately. This paper examines the possible utilization of this phenomenon to suppress vibrations caused by impulse loading. It is shown that for weakly coupled structures, the transmitted response can be significantly reduced by small changes in the stiffness properties of the bay. This study quantifies weak coupling as a function of the amount of imperfection introduced into the system. Also, the concept of disturbance leakage is introduced.
