The supporting elements of bridges and other constructions require wires which are adapted in their characteristics to the requirements of those constructions. The high quality needed to guarantee long life can only be achieved by using carefully chosen raw materials with high grade purity, the correct chemical composition, and modern processing procedured and facilities. With the application of special processing techniques the desired characteristics of the wires can certainly be achieved. In the case of bridge building, according to the type of bridge - suspension bridge or cable stayed bridge - cables of different constructions are used and these are adapted to the wire specifications. The application of zinc coated (galvanized) wires is a decisive improvement regarding the corrosion protection of the wires and bundles. The galvanizing procedure used assures that no hydrogen embrittlement of the wires occurs during the galvanizing. Brittle cracks as a result of hydrogen embrittlement are thus not possible. A radical quality assurance program during processing, according to German Industrial Norms - DIN ISO 9001ff - assures that all wires which leave the plant comply with the prescribed properties.
