Investigations on the dynamic behaviour of explosion tampers
In the present work, a theoretical method has been developed through which it is possible to investigate the dynamic behaviour of explosion tampers, ie., to calculate the variation of displacement and velocity with respect to time for the different moving masses of the tamper. This enables the determination of the time to complete one cycle, maximum height of jump and frequency. The entire period of motion has been divided into two intervals, 1. Interval of rest, in which the tamping plate remains on ground, and 2. Interval of jump, in which the tamping plate remains in air. Each interval of motion is further divided into five phases so that there are ten phases during a cycle. The mathematical model of machine has three degrees of freedom and equations of motion have been set up for ten phases. The calculations have been done for a 100 kg explosion tamper.
