Resistance of concrete with limestone sand or polymer additions to feed acids
Chemical components from feed residues and manure attack the concrete floors in pig houses. Addition of limestone sand or polymer in the concrete mix attempts to reduce the deterioration of concrete floors by lactic and acetic acid. Concrete degradation was measured with laser sensors connected to a computer and the average attack depth and the Ra-value, which is a measure of surface roughness, were calculated. The increase in concrete roughness was smaller for limestone sand and limestone aggregates concrete mix than for concrete with limestone sand and gravel aggregates. Addition of 10% polymers containing styrol acrylic acid ester to the concrete mix increased the resistance significantly.
