Piloted ignition of a radiatively heated solid combustible material in a forced oxidizer flow
The piloted ignition of a solid combustible material that is exposed to a forced convective flow of oxidizer flowing parallel to one of its surfaces was studied. The objective was to determine the possibility of developing a test method for characterizing the flammability properties of solid combustibles that follows the concepts established in the LIFT, but is based on forced convection as the mechanism for transport. Experiments were conducted to determine the ignition time as a function of the radiant flux and flow velocity.
