New method for fatigue and stress corrosion damages
During cyclic or random loadings, most of materials will fail by rupture, ratchetting or fatigue. In presence of stresses, for some materials, corrosion cracks appear. For these two important damages (fatigue and stress-corrosion), we are only interested by the initiation time during the process. In order to understand these phenomenae and to build models to predict them, several experimental studies have been and are still undertaken. Very often, the tests are accelerated to be able to obtain enough data in a reasonable time. Usually, in the laboratory, classical tests are used to obtain the fatigue characteristics or the potentiality of one alloy to the stress corrosion damage. In this paper, we shall explain how it is possible to realize the fusion of these very different types of experiments. Then, with the help of some learning tools, we shall automatically extract the rules for the time to crack initiation, in clear and with a known degree of confidence. At last, we shall show how to apply these rules to any general structures.
