Diverless subsea flange connection
Subsea flange installation is usually performed exclusively by divers, effectively precluding their use in deepwater applications. In 1995, Stolt Comex Seaway began to pursue the development of remote technology enabling the use of subsea bolted flange connection in deepwaters. Called the MATIS system, it has been designed to make up standard ANSI and API flange joints, for various pipeline tie-ins such as spool piece or flowline-tree connections. This provides the opportunity of using proven technology from shallow water into deepwater applications, with the benefits of reduced costs and lead times and better overall system reliability.
