Die Demographie des Alten Ägypten : Eine Phänomenologie anhand altägyptischer Quellen
This study examines various aspects of ancient Egyptian demography. The study begins with the well-known figures given by the Greek historians Diodor and Flavius Josephus, who claim a total population of approximately seven million people in Egypt during the Greek and Roman period. A new chronological framework has been constructed for this information. The following chapters are dealing with demographic details of the pharaonic Egypt. The main topics for these chapters include an overview of the number and quality of ancient Egyptian census papyri, estimated sizes of households and settlements and a critical analysis of the historical background of figures given in ancient text sources. Comparisons with evidence from medieval Europe and modern demographic parameters are taken into consideration for all three of these topics
