Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
Sketch design is a term which is loosely applied to any preliminary drawings prepared by the architect. Although sketch design sounds very casual, a great deal of effort is required to produce a good sketch design even if the project is relatively small. Where a large project is concerned, the author would expect the sketch design to result from a meeting of all the consultants involved who obviously must be appointed at the very beginning of the project. The notable architect Sir Basil Spence was said to go on site with his sketch pad as soon as he received the brief. He would then sketch the site from all angles, inserting the kind of building he thought would look well. Armed with his wonderful sketches, he would call a meeting of all consultants to whom he explained the brief and showed them what he had drawn.
