Drinking water and Legionnaires' Disease
The elusive bacterium that causes legionellosis apparently thrives in some water distribution systems in buildings. This respiratory disease has not been associated with ingestion of drinking water but seems to occur with secondary water use when bacteria are inhaled in aerosol form from sources such as showerheads. This article discusses up‐to‐date information on control measures, the various forms of the disease, and methods of detecting the presence of the bacteria.
