Managing Value in Portfolios, Programmes and Projects
This chapter argues that value management has to go beyond being seen in construction as a single project intervention methodology to one that can be applied effectively within multiproject environments, and across and at different levels in an organisational hierarchy as set out also in Chapter 8. The chapter provides an outline of strategic management and organisational strategy to set the context for the remainder of the chapter. A review of Portfolios, Programmes and Projects (P3) is undertaken. P3 are vehicles for delivering investments that will decide the shape of an organisation's future position in its external environment and help achieve its vision. P3 delivers value throughout an organisation. The chapter outlines the concept of the Organisational Value Chain and the Organisational Project Value Chain and its implications for value management. The chapter presents a value study linking VM with Programme Management thinking in a multiproject environment.
