Sluice gates a critical, often‐ignored component
This article discusses the importance of sluice gates in water and wastewater systems. In many cases, these gates are the only devices in place to close off flow to and from tanks or to connect channels within a utility or system. Topics covered include: three basic reasons for gate problems; how the new composite materials with embedded steel reinforcers, such as Coplastix®, are protecting and extending the life cycle of sluice/weir gates; and, a case study involving Florida's Jacksonville Electric Authority and its use of Coplastix material in gate applications.
