Daily Vertical Passenger Traffic Profiles
Passenger traffic was measured in different types of buildings with four different methods. Firstly, people flow was observed at the main elevator lobbies of 10 buildings. Secondly, data were automatically recorded by an access control system in security gates of an office in Poland. Thirdly, the passenger call data were detected by the destination control system from an office building from the United Kingdom. The fourth and the most accurate counting method is the one with the control system since it measures passenger traffic from all floors including the inter‐floor traffic in upper floors. Vertical traffic patterns consist of the incoming, outgoing and inter‐floor traffic components. In hospitals, the number of passenger trips within a day per car was 2555, which is the highest vale. In office buildings, traffic repeats quite similarly during the five weekdays. In office buildings, escalators can be used at the entrance floors, and for the parking floors.
