This chapter presents interview with Barbara White Bryson, an architect, owner, and educator. Her challenges to owners, architects, and educators are timely. Different types of architects are doing different kinds of practice. So, in managing design, there's no one size fits all, not now or in the future, and industry disruption is coming, much more quickly than people imagine. Architecture schools must teach specific collaboration skills and defeat the culture of masochism. Architects must learn to communicate in owner terms.The chapter also presents interview with John Moebes, a senior Construction Director with Crate & Barrel. He has used building information modeling (BIM) to transform the design and construction delivery process. Through owner leadership as a serial builder, he has demonstrated metrics and results with new design management processes. His insight into owner “program” versus “project” responsibilities is timely.
