Hackfall, Yorkshire
Renewal and rejuvenation of neglected designed landscapes requires careful planning and communication. Hackfall demonstrates that whilst the preparation of a well‐informed management plan and subsequent detailed proposals, funded by the likes of Heritage Lottery Fund or Natural England is essential, the need to explain and communicate proposals and principles to an increasingly wide and varied group of interested parties is often the greater challenge. This particularly applies when making the case that the former layout and design of a place is of greater significance – or at least equal in significance – to its natural history. This is of huge importance if a publicly funded project is to gain support and momentum as well as be perceived as a success.
