Water Harvesting Case Studies in Germany: Urban and Regional Investigations
This chapter discusses water haversting in the capital city of Germany (Berlin) and examines a host of water harvesting issues in Berlin ranging from the price of water to the "Postdamer Platz" in Berlin. Increased public awareness in Berlin has helped to lower domestic water consumption. Additional reasons for the informed citizenry of Berlin with respect to water issues have been identified. Governments and industry in Berlin have also undertaken various water management studies and cost–benefit analyses. The chapter examines a number of German urban and regional investigations. It also examines the German city of Wuppertal and explores German regions of Lusatia and the Emscher Regions, respectively. Germany's capital city is at the forefront of water harvesting technologies and solutions to improve sustainability for communities, ecosystems, and industries.
