The occurrence and reduction of sodium in drinking water
Sodium, from natural and man‐made sources, occurs in varying amounts in raw and finished drinking waters. How sodium concentration can be increased during drinking water treatment, what concentrations can be expected after treatment, and how sodium in drinking water can be reduced or eliminated are questions discussed in this paper. A literature review on treatment techniques for reduction of total dissolved solids—hence sodium reduction—and a brief introduction on the health effects of sodium are also included.
