Conceptual Design and Design Analysis
This chapter takes a look at the Autodesk Revit Architecture conceptual design tools and how one can leverage them for sustainable design analysis. It explores a different type of mass called a conceptual mass and uses that to generate sustainable design analysis. One of the principal goals of sustainable design is to reduce a building's overall resource use. The process is built on the following methodology for reducing the energy consumption of buildings: understanding climate; reducing loads; using free energy; and using efficient systems. It is a good idea to establish early on in modeling process which sustainable design analyses users will be performing based on their model geometry. There are two ways to use Revit Architecture software for energy analysis, by analyzing mass forms directly in the model or by exporting a more detailed model to another application using the gbXML format.
