The requirements for full water saturation of soil specimens are explained and the technique for determining the degree of saturation is presented. Several methods for saturating a soil specimen are reviewed including percolation with water, the CO2‐method, application of back pressure as well as the vacuum procedure. The time required for full saturation of soil specimens under back pressure is indicated. The range in which each saturation method may work is indicated.
