Formulating Material Properties in Coupled Hydro‐Mechanical Modeling
The investigation of coupled hydro‐mechanical problems is of special interest in various fields of application concerning waste disposal. Focusing on these problems, it becomes obvious that the migration problems in mechanically loaded rocks with low permeabilities often imply additional mechanical effects which have to be incorporated in the coupled numerical model. Consequently, the existing finite element code RockFlow is extended by a non‐linear elastic compressibility model and an elasto‐plastic material model of the Cam‐Clay type. To demonstrate the applicability, this contribution presents two examples. While the first one is concerned with the non‐linear elastic behavior of a compressible material, the second one focuses on the hardening and softening found in a triaxial test.
