Glassphäre für das Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
In Los Angeles soll der neue Gebäudekomplex „Academy Museum of Motion Pictures“ im Dezember 2019 eröffnet werden. Für Ausstellungsflächen wird hierzu das historische „May Company Building“ renoviert und über mehrere verglaste Fußgängerbrücken mit einem sphärischen Kinoneubau verbunden. Für die Gesamtplanung sind die renommierten Architekturbüros „Renzo Piano Building Workshop“ und M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates verantwortlich. Im Artikel wird die Planung, Fertigung und Montage der erdbebensicheren Stahl‐/Glaskonstruktionen der Brücken und der Kuppel über dem Kino beschrieben. Eine Besonderheit stellt auch das sphärische Glasdach mit einem Durchmesser von 46 m dar. Die Stahlstruktur folgt verschiedenen geometrischen Vorgaben.
Glass sphere for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. In Los Angeles, the new building complex “Academy Museum of Motion Pictures” is to be opened in December 2019. The historic “May Company Building” is redesigned as an exhibition space and connected to a new spherical theater building via several glazed pedestrian bridges. The renowned architects Renzo Piano Building Workshop and M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates are responsible for the overall planning. The article describes the design, fabrication and installation of the earthquake‐proof steel/glass structures of the bridges and the dome above the theater. Another special feature is the free‐span spherical glass roof with a diameter of 46 m. The steel structure is following different geometrical rules.
